Learn about the cuckoo who doesn’t build its own next but instead lays its eggs in the nest of other bird species. The host birds raise the cuckoo’s young for them. Read about poison dart frogs who carry their tadpoles on their backs to bring them to small pools of water inside plants or tree holes. The mother frog also returns to the pools of water to lay unfertilized eggs in the water to provide food for the tadpoles as they grow. Learn about seahorses, the only known species in which the male grows the fertilized eggs as they develop. Read about dolphins who have a remarkable cooperative parenting style which increases the safety of all baby dolphins. Read about the naked mole rats which have colonies similar to bees in which only one female – the queen – produces babies and the rest of the colony works together to support the babies.
