Journey Through the Water Cycle dice rolling game for middle school

$4.20

This water cycle station activity lets middle school students explore how water moves through different environments. It can be played digitally through Google Classroom or as physical stations around the room. Students roll a die to determine their movement between stations and record their journey on a worksheet. The activity takes about 15–20 minutes, followed by reflection questions, with an additional class period for a more in-depth application task like storytelling or illustration.

Description

This versatile station activity will help your middle schoolers learn about the water cycle.
To play the game digitally:
1.Distribute the Journey through the water cycle digital game using Google Classroom, making sure that each student receives his/her own copy.
2.Print and distribute the student recording worksheets OR distribute the worksheet digitally via Google Classroom, making sure each student receives his/her own copy. [Note: worksheet is editable, stations are not.]
3.Each student will need one die (or they can use a digital die – share this link with students).
To play the game in stations:
1.Print the stations and set them up around the room.
2.Put one die at each station. (You can make a die from cardstock by printing the template at this website.)
3.Print and distribute the student recording worksheets OR distribute the worksheet digitally via Google Classroom, making sure each student receives his/her own copy.
To play:
1.If playing digitally, students will all start with the Ocean. They roll the die and then click the link to advance to the next station.
2.If playing in stations, students can start at any station (divide up the room to avoid crowds!). At the station, they roll the die and follow the instructions at that station. Be sure to tell students in advance that they should line up at a station if there’s someone else already there. If a person has to remain at a station for a second term, it’s helpful to have them go to the end of the line.
3.Allow students 15-20 minutes to complete 10-15 stations and then they can answer the reflection questions on the worksheet with the remainder of the period.
4.Allow a full class period for students to complete the application activity (or more if you want a more detailed story with pictures, etc.).
