Description

Engage students as they learn about global warming and climate change in this simple to use scavenger hunt. Students travel to 10 stations where they will find 10 questions. The answers to each question are in short paragraphs on different stations. This allows students lots of movement around the classroom and the opportunity to read the 10 short paragraphs about climate change several times.
The activity works great to front load the content because no prior knowledge is needed – all answers can be found at the stations. Includes questions such as:
  • Climate change can result in more frequent and severe __ such as hurricanes. (storms)
  • The day to day atmospheric conditions of a location is called __. (weather)
  • Carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide all cause climate change and are called __ gases. (greenhouse)
  • The greenhouse effect is driven by the trapping of __ radiation which warms the planet. (infrared)
As students travel around they room, they complete the answer grid which has some letters highlighted. The letters will spell out the answer to a riddle (“What do you call a flower that runs on electricity?” “A power plant.”)
This activity includes a modified version in which students are told which of the stations to find each of the answers.
Simple to use – just print and go! My students took about 25-30 minutes to complete this activity with no prior knowledge at all.
